Three Cups of Tea

Wow. Just finished reading Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. For those who have not heard of Mr. Mortenson or read this book. Please do so. In brief, it is an account of an American mountaineer who climbs a metaphorical mountain after failing in his attempt to climb K2. He finds ways to build schools in remote areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan. He is building bridges of kindness, peace and understanding between our Western world and the area of the Earth we here about in the news reports [but they so often only report about the war and politics that it's easy to tune it out after a while.] My son bought this book and after reading it passed it along to me. I am so grateful that he did. It was wonderful and touching and inspiring. The theory that education can ease tensions between the poorer [only in the economic sense ] populous and the wealthier nations seems to bear out in this story. And the right of women and girls to an education and the struggles they go through to get it are so thought provoking! I am at a loss for words to adequately relay how important I think this book could be. I just hope someone out there takes my advice and requests it at their local library or bookstore, peruses its pages and buys a copy. There can be no great accomplishment in this world than the promotion of Peace for us all. Seeking to understand and assisting our fellow man can not help but lead to better things in this life. Treat others as you would have them treat you. Life is so uncertain. Live every moment. Make this world a better place.
